Trump Leaves Denmark Out of 'Peace Board'

(MENAFN) Media has revealed that Denmark received no invitation to join US President Donald Trump's newly unveiled 'Board of Peace', despite Copenhagen's status as a NATO ally. The exclusion follows escalating tensions over the American leader's persistent campaign to acquire Greenland from Danish control.

The White House rolled out the panel Thursday during the World Economic Forum in Davos, though multiple longstanding American allies have already spurned membership offers. France, Sweden, and Norway have all turned down seats publicly, triggering sharp criticism from Trump. A Danish diplomatic source confirmed to Politico that Copenhagen was never approached about participation.

During his Davos address Wednesday, Trump attacked Denmark as undersized and delinquent in defending Greenland militarily. The president characterized America's post-World War II recognition of Danish authority over the Arctic territory as "stupid" and branded Denmark "ungrateful" for resisting American overtures. NATO chief Mark Rutte is now working behind the scenes to broker a resolution.

According to media, numerous European nations traditionally aligned with Washington are quietly resisting the initiative. Italy, the UK, and Poland may similarly decline involvement, partly due to Trump's controversial decision to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin as a participant.

Detractors argue the board's preliminary governing document stretches its authority far beyond managing Gaza's transition following a US-brokered Israel-Hamas ceasefire arrangement. The framework also concentrates excessive authority in the chairperson's hands—a position Trump would occupy, potentially permanently.

Putin signaled Wednesday that Moscow stands ready to inject $1 billion from Western-frozen Russian reserves into the council's budget, contingent on its commitment to "solve the immediate problems of the Palestinian people and resolve acute humanitarian problems in Gaza." He emphasized Russia prioritizes addressing the Palestinian situation consistent with UN objectives.
